Principal Psychologist

Ben French

I have been practising as a Psychologist since 2003. I am an accredited psychologist supervisor and have been fortunate enough to speak at several conferences and workshops on child and adolescent mental health issues.

My goal as a private practitioner is to bring over a decade of work experience as a mental health professional to the private sector. I have significant experience in working with children and young people at risk and those suffering debilitating mental health issues. I have worked as a psychologist in community mental health teams, within a juvenile detention centre and performed the key roles of senior clinician and then team leader in the ACT Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

I also have significant experience working with 4-12 year olds as a school psychologist and provide developmentally appropriate therapy using different modalities. I am also accredited to facilitate the parenting programs 'Tuning into Teens' and 'Tuning into Kids'.

As a practitioner my goal is to provide tailored therapeutic approaches such as developmentally appropriate Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, using play, puppets and stories, for very young clients having social or emotional difficulties and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy (ST), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for adolescent and adult clients as the presentation requires. Psychoeducation and parent support of young clients is an essential part of treating a child or young adolescent if appropriate.
